To practice with a Rope Ripper, attach the anchor clip securely to a post, fence, or sturdy surface. Place the training ball at the end of the rope, then pull the two handles apart to send the ball zipping down the line toward the batter. As the ball travels, the batter focuses on a level swing, proper timing, and tracking the ball into contact. The rope provides a built-in guide to help reinforce a consistent swing path. This trainer improves mechanics, timing, and confidence without needing a live pitcher, allowing hitters to practice different speeds and movements in a compact space.

How to Use the Rope Ripper

  1. Set Up: Secure the anchor clip and rope to a stable post, fence, or tree.

  2. Position the Ball: Slide the training ball to the end of the rope closest to the batter.

  3. Prepare for the Pitch: Hold the two handles apart, then pull to send the ball zipping down the rope.

  4. Hit: As the ball approaches, the batter should load into a strong hitting position and swing level through the ball. The rope guides the swing path for better mechanics.

  5. Repeat: The goal is to drive the ball straight back along the rope, reinforcing a powerful, efficient swing.

Swing Timing and Level Swing

The rope naturally guides the bat through a level plane, teaching hitters to keep their swing path clean and consistent for line-drive contact.

Practice Different Pitches

Work on a rising fastball by snapping the wrist at release to create lift. You can also practice a drop pitch by applying downward spin with your fingers across the seams. For a changeup, use a standard grip but apply extra finger pressure to reduce spin and take velocity off the ball.

Aim for Movement

The Gravity Ball is designed to generate dramatic movement. Focus on finding release points that maximize curves, drops, and unexpected breaks to challenge hitters.

Work on Pitch Tunneling:

Practice delivering a sequence of pitches that look identical out of the hand but break differently in speed or direction. This forces hitters to hesitate and improves your deception.

Gravity Ball Fielding Drills

Focus on Hand-Eye Coordination

Wiffle Ball Rapid-Fire Drill

Purpose: Sharpen reaction speed, vision, and glove-to-ball quickness that translates directly into better hand–eye coordination at the plate.

  1. Stand 4–6 feet away from your partner with a bucket of small wiffle balls (or upgrade with Gravity Balls).

  2. Partner throws rapid-fire tosses at varying locations (high, low, inside, outside).

  3. Player catches the ball barehanded, immediately drops, and resets (catch, drop, catch, drop, and so on).

  4. Make it harder by holding a ping pong ball (or other small object) in your palm, which forces you to catch with just your fingers.

  5. Bonus: Repeat with both hands to increase coordination.

Outfield Footwork Drill

Purpose: Train outfielders to approach and field balls efficiently, reducing wasted movement.

  1. Player starts in an outfield stance.

  2. On ball contact, sprint directly to the ball with quick, efficient steps.

  3. Plant with your right foot, transfer to your left, and square yourself to the target.

  4. Keep your head level for balance.

  5. Deliver a throw to the cutoff man with momentum forward.

Turn & Stay Low Drill

Purpose: Improve lateral quickness and reaction for infield grounders.

  1. The player begins with their back turned to the coach.

  2. On the “Turn!” command, spin into a ready stance.

  3. Coach hits balls randomly to the glove side or backhand.

  4. Player stays low, fields cleanly, and finishes play.

  5. Increase difficulty by delaying the “Turn!” command to test reactions.

Reaction Ball Drill

Purpose: Improve reflexes, agility, and quick hands. These are key components for reacting to different pitch speeds and movements.

  1. Player stands in a ready position, with or without a glove.

  2. Partner rolls or bounces a Reaction Ball on the floor.

  3. Track the unpredictable hops of the Reaction Ball and move hands quickly to field it cleanly.

  4. Emphasize staying low, balanced, and reacting instantly.

  5. Repeat with varied speeds and directions.
